What is AutoCAD?

AutoCAD, Defination, Uses, Advantages & Disadvantages and History of AutoCAD

At first, when someone asked me, Sir “What is AutoCAD?” Just one sentence I replied to them that AutoCAD is a designing or drafting software.

Then I explain that what is AutoCAD and it uses.

So first of all AutoCAD is a computer-Aided Design program used for 2D and 3D design and drafting. AutoCAD is developed and marketed by Autodesk Inc. And was one of the 1st CAD programs that could be executed on personal computers.

AutoCAD is a computer-aided tool that allows many different types of designs. AutoCAD software types of designs much more quick, easy, and useful features, such as move, copy-paste, etc. or its software saved our time much better than practical drawing.

What are the uses of AutoCAD?

The primary use of AutoCAD is designing and drafting. It’s most commonly used for architectural and civil layout as well as for simple 3D design.

AutoCAD enables architects to design, plan, execute and analyze the strength of a building, at the design stage level.

AutoCAD has applications in many fields like mechanical engineering, civil engineering, chemical engineering, designing, engineering drawing, interior designing, electrical engineering, wastewater management, highway engineering, etc.

It comes to the civil engineering field for the plan sites, draft any civil engineering structure (2D & 3D) such as building drawing, bridges designing, roads, pipeline, dams, drainage, rail track layout, river and flood analysis etc.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of AutoCAD?

AutoCAD has many advantages, in the article, we discuss shortly on advantages of AutoCAD. Upcoming article we elaborate benefits of AutoCAD.

Advantages:-

The following advantages are –

  • Save time money

  • Store and transfer/share data safely

  • Increase in the productivity of the designer

  • Speed

  • Accuracy

  • Compatibility

  • 2D and 3D modeling and view

  • Virtualization

  • Modify your drawing

  • Establish drafting standards.

  • Easy to learn

  • Software is easily available

We will explain all points of advantages in our upcoming articles.

Disadvantages:-

There are many disadvantages also –

  • The initial costs of buying a computer system, AutoCAD software are quite high.

  • It requires good training to get used to the tools.

  • The computers and devices needed CAD/CAM needs to be maintained.

  • It requires a powerful computer to work.

  • Need for regular updating of software or operating system.

  • Work could be easily hacked.

History of AutoCAD:-

The AutoCAD was founded in 1982 BY John Walker. He lunched AutoCAD at the COMDEX trade show in Las Vegas in March 1986. That year AutoCAD has become the most widely used design application.

In 2004 Autodesk launched the new version of AutoCAD. After 2004 they updated AutoCAD every year and added new features.

In my opinion, I used 2006, 2007, 2010 and 2013 and  I just preferred 2010 and 2006 it’s very easy to work, every important feature have this AutoCAD(2006/2010). But it’s  not good in 3D work.
