Advantages:-
1. High Strength:- Steel structure has high strength per unit weight than any other materials.
2. High Ductility:- Steel has high ductility which helps to overcome sudden failure and also large deflection are visible before failure.
3. Uniformity:- The properties of steel do not change with respect to time as concrete structure. Moreover high quality control of steel is achieved during factory production.
4. Environmental Friendly:- steel is the most versatile material to be recycled due to this steel can be used in product after another with losing it’s quality. It also has high scarab value.
5. Versatility:- Using steel it is possible to join different members together by simple connection such as bolting, riveting and wielding.
6. Elasticity:- Steel behaves as elastic materials and follows Hook’s law upto a fairly high stress.

7. Toughness:- Steel structure have the ability to absorb energy in large amount which is called Toughness. This allows erection and fabrication without fracture.
8. Pre Fabrication:- Steel components are manufacture at the factory under good supervision and quality control. Then they are transported at site. This help saving in speedy and better work.
Disadvantages:-
1. Maintenance Cost:- Steels are susceptible to corrosion when exposed to air and water. And therefore they have to periodically paint. Steel members in the interior of building do not corrode quickly.
2. Fire-Proofing cost:- Since steel is an excellent head conductor so the steel frame of a building may have to be protected with certain insulating materials.
3. Susceptibility to Buckling:- The longer and slender the compression members, the greater is the danger of buckling so steel column have to be stiffened against buckling.
4. Fatigue:- Steel strength may be reduced if it is subjected to a large number of stress reversible which is known as Fatigue.
