ØAny
steel structure is an assemblage of different members such as beam, column and
tensile members which are to be connected to one another. Connections between
different members of a steel framework not only facilitate the flow of forces
and moment to one member to another member but also allowed the transfer of forces
up to the foundation level.
Classify
the connection of various types.
·Method of fastening such as rivets, bolts and
welding. ·Connection rigidity – simple, rigid and semi-
rigid. ·Joint Resistance – Bearing and friction type. ·Fabrication location – Shop or field connection. ·Joint location – Beam-column, Beam-Beam and
Column-Foundation. ·Connection geometry – Single-angle, double angle
and I-section etc.
What is meant bolt of class 4.6 ?
ØThe
number 4 indicates 1/100th of the ultimate tensilestrength
in N/mm2. And number 6 indicate the ratio of yield stress to
ultimate stress expressed as a percentage. Thus, the ultimate tensile strength
of class 4.6 is 400 N/mm2 and yield 400*0.6 = 240 N/mm2.
